78: the Ghetto part 4

Part 4 today of the ghetto chronicles.
Some funky, some reggae and some...well, some "other" I guess.
A version sung in French of the tune everyone knows from Elvis,
and the intro from Macy Gray sounds (to me) just like it's taken from
"It's a man's world" from James Brown.
The Carlos Garnett song I found (amongst many other great LP's)
on the amazing Ile Oxumare spot (see the links!)
So here it is, hope you like it.
1. Boris Gardiner - Ghetto Funk (3:03)
2. Carlos Garnett - Ghetto Jungle (4:38)
3. Combo Modern - Ghetto Stomp (gerardo frisina remix) (5:32)
4. Dick Rivers - Dans Le Ghetto (3:05)
5. Duralcha - Ghet-to Funk (3:05)
6. Jon Lucien - Ghetto Song (2:21)
7. Lee Mortimer - About The Ghetto (6:15)
8. Linval Thompson - The Children Of The Ghetto (2:21)
9. Macy Gray - Ghetto Love (3:08)
10. Tom Browne - Ghetto Horn (D-Influence Full Version Remix) (6:22)

Hey thanks for the plug. Your "ghetto" compilations are fun. Do you know that Lonnie Gordon remake of Donny Hathaway's "Little Ghetto Boy"?

Hey Emile. Sorry to take so long to get back to you. The Miriam Makeba song I sent you is from "A Promise" from 1974. I think thete's a questionable CD out there of this album but I picked it up at Axelgrease blog, link on my site.

And now here for you is the Lonnie Gordon cover of Donny Hathaway's "The Ghetto". It's from her 1993 album Badmood, and is kinda disco-ey. I don't know if you remember but her big hit was "Happenin All Over Again" which got caught in some legal limbo and didn't come out on an album until like 3 years after it broke and so her career kinda fizzled out. But here you, maybe for your Ghetto Volume 5!
